Can’t play two player pass and play

Great but issues.
It’s a great game! But there are a couple of bugs. I tried to do online play and play with one of my friends, but it kept crashing. I also can’t figure out how to make an online account to get an achievement. That brings us to the next topic: achievements. There are a couple of easy ones, but one of them is literally to be the best player in the world. WHY?! Other than that’s the bots almost always just go the spot in front of you. Also what’s the puppet for on pass and play. There’s always just a puppet and a player has to move him and that means there’s always an extra player. Other than that, it’s amazing.

Can’t play online
Update: Even after the patch, the game is still unplayable! After arriving at the first inn checkpoint and finishing the meal, players get locked out. | Bought the game to play online with someone but there is a bug that makes it so that when both players have joined, it becomes two concurrent games that play at the same time. Makes it unplayable.

Bugs: Player Count
Just bought the game and was excited to try and learn before purchasing the physical game. Unfortunately, I’ve run into some bugs at various player counts.
Solo seems fine.
Pass and play 2-player also seems fine.
3-player with 1 AI generates a 4-player game with 4-player game with 1 AI.
4-player with 2 AI doesn’t load at all.
5-player with 3 AI doesn’t load at all.
Didn’t test all player counts. Just wanted to get something with AI instead of the neutral player to teach my wife the ropes.

Font Issue
The stylized font for Japanese looks great, but the developer should not have used it for Chinese. This is because Kanji does not cover all Chinese characters. When you use a Japanese font for Chinese, many Chinese characters do not even exist in such a font, so they have to fallback to the default font provided by the OS, resulting in a really messy GUI.

Great adaptation
Loved the board game but it isn’t always easy to get three people to play. So it’s nice to be able to play solo.
Only problem seems to a bug where I choose a meal at the last inn and it doesn’t give me the points. Doesn’t happen every time and it’s not limited to one character but it happens frequently enough to notice.
Other than it’s a great adaptation both in game play and visual design.

Great game, but waiting for expansions
It’s a great game and I play it with my partner all the time. Unfortunately the expansion packages are not included and we are tired of the characters available.

Beautiful Classic! Can’t wait for expansions
A beautiful, relaxing game which has had any earlier issues fixed by the developers. Take a vacation along the coast, with wonderfully animated characters and locations.
Now we’re waiting on the wonderful Crossroads and Matsuri expansions.
Crossroads turns every location into a choice, turning a game of hopscotch into a piece of real strategy, as you can now choose legendary souvenirs, end of game bonuses, one off powers, a risky round of gambling, and more.
Matsuri adds many new characters and adds an event at each step of the journey which affects the game, greatly improving variation and replayability.
And maybe even… promos and the New Encounters? 🤞
Even without these, my girlfriend and I love playing this game. Once they’re here, it’ll take over many dinners and game nights each week. Can’t wait!

No sound/ music
Good game, haven’t played the actual board game before but was easy to learn and play with a 10-year old. But neither of us gets any sound/ music. In settings we’ve tried everything from toggling music/ volume/ language to no use. We’ve tried downloading in multiple devices - phones/ iPads.. all have the same issue. Is anyone else seeing that or are we doing something completely stupid? Looks like an easy one to fix if it’s a bug!

Good overall, but HUGE Bug with Chubei
There is a bug with Chubei. Played a game online with a friend. In the end, there was a discrepancy in the scoring between my game and my friend’s game. He was playing Chubei - he had an extra 5 points that was not reflected on my game. When looking into the details, I saw that his game showed 2 additional panorama sections that he received from encounters which was not apparent on my game. For some reason, the panoramas from encounters are not registering.

Great game but error with Chubei
I love this game and it’s beautifully made. One major bug that hasn’t been fixed in the half year I’ve owned it is when you play the character Chubei. Chubei gains an extra visit each time he eats a meal at an inn. If you receive the mountain panorama, for example, but have already completed it - you will be given a choice of a different panorama. However, after you choose you can’t proceed with the game and are frozen. Please correct this!
Second, certain characters you know they will skip coins etc. So easy to defeat them because you know they will skip. If AI were improved to make them still get coins when low that might make it more interesting because pretty easy to win. Otherwise love it so 4 stars. Please fix Chubei bug!

Incredible but incomplete
The game is fun, gorgeous, and captivating, but the achievements don’t work! I’ve completed the the preliminary achievements but they don’t update as completed. Also, the touch screen is very sensitive with no way to modify it.

Relaxing, beautiful challenge
What a beautiful game. I only play solo, so I can’t speak to online issues. But this app is flawless in solo play.
Others have mentioned the tutorial being minimal, but I thought it sufficed and was well done. It gives you what you need to get started. Rules and strategy are easily available online if you need them, but this game is meant to be an exploration, it’s about the journey.
The pace is relaxing, but there is still a strategy and challenge to it. It’s not overly hard nor too easy. It’s simply a relaxing, fun game.
I’m glad that when you start a new solo game, you can click in settings for that game and set it to fast AI. That’s great for when you don’t have as much time. But the regular speed is perfect for a relaxing game.
Thank you for a good game at a good price with no ads or IAP. It’s also good on battery life. I’m very happy to own this game!

Unplayable
I loved the boardGame and I was so excited to find this app. However it is too buggy to finish a game. It took my friend and I an hour to figure out how to friend each other and start a game. Afterwards, we tried two games and both times the ai crashed. Would have liked it to at least be playable considering I paid money...

Full of glitches
I would give this game a lower star if I could. It deserves negative stars. If I buy a game, I want the game to actually work. It does not work more than half the time. THe developer also never bothered to fix the game. Please do yourself a favor and don’t buy it. Don’t let the devs make any more money off of this game that they will not fix.

Incomprehensible

Pretty but broken
Offline solo play against AI opponents works fine. On-line play is completely non-functional. Been trying to join a public on-line game or host one, for weeks, but it NEVER works. So sad the multiplayer is so broken..

Great game except for Online play
The app version of Tokaido is just what you would expect - an enjoyable and beautiful game. However, as much fun as the game is to play, online games are constantly plagued with issues such as giving your actions to one of the other players. I just played a game where my character received a bonus for stopping at an encounter space, I neither got the bonus point and coin, nor received the three coins from the encounter. They all went to the player who ended up winning the game, as they used my coins at the temple to tie me for most donations. Things like this happen every game. Yesterday I bought two items from the market at one stop and they were both given to one of the other players. Sometimes meals from the inn are purchased and go to one of the other players, so there go 6 points down the drain.
I’ve been playing the board game version of Tokaido for years, and until the online issues are fixed, that is the best option for a fair game (or Boardgamearena.com).

You Get What You Pay For
... And this app was free.
Beautiful concept, poor execution.
The have has a variety of issues. In addition to the game freezing and not being able to get back in, there are all kinds of things that mess with the game when playing online. Some include
* Donations to the Temple not being credited, or being credited to another player.
* Items purchased at the market not being received, but takes the coins.
* Food at the Inn that was purchased doesn’t show in players collection, or goes to another player.
* Stopping at the farm and not getting the coins.
* Two players with the same character.
On top of those, finding friends and playing with them doesn’t work. It could not locate players by their nickname and we were only able to connect when both in the waiting room.
Finally, you can’t do anything else on your device while playing. If you go out of the app for any reason, or even get a phone call, you cannot reconnect to your game.

Great offline, play with friends doesn’t work
I’ve played this game a lot offline as solo and “pass and play” which works great. But we tried playing online with friends, and it doesn’t work. There’s an option to “add friends”, but then you can’t create a private room or do anything with them. Not sure why it has space to add friends if it does nothing. If you create a room, it doesn’t show up reliably, and it allows anyone in. I had to cancel rooms with strangers, and I felt bad about that. My husband sitting next to me could see rooms I created and vice versa.
